Here you’ll find answers to some common questions about becoming a student at the Chinese Shao-Lin Center Los Angeles.  Remember, students always work at their OWN PACE and can JOIN AT ANYTIME.

How much does it cost?

We offer a variety of membership packages to fit your budget, ranging from one month to one year.

Where is the school located?

Our full-time training facility is located just Northeast of the 101 and 405 Freeways at 14923 Magnolia Boulevard, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403.

When are the classes?

Regular classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and also on Saturday mornings. Special classes and festivals are typically held on Saturdays as well.

Beginning students are encouraged to attend the open practice hour to review their material, if requested we will find a senior student to assist in reviewing your material.

What should I wear to class?

For your first month, you may wear any loose fitting and comfortable clothing or you may purchase a uniform. After your first month of classes, you should plan to purchase and wear the traditional uniform.

Do I need to attend every class?

Students can attend as often as they like and their schedule allows. Between family, work, school, and other activities it might be hard to make it every class. Even attending class only 1-2 times a week students will see the benefit of the training and are encouraged to work on their training when not in class. We have students that will even travel 100 miles each way just to participate in our unique art.

What ages do you teach?

Classes are structured for adults. For children, the recommended age is at least 12 years old, however, we will allow a student as young as 9 or 10 years old to participate if an older sibling or parent joins with them. We suggest that you purchase only a 1 month membership for a youngster under 12, and have them join on a trial basis to see how the 1st month goes.

Do I need to be in shape before I start training?

Whether you are very active or haven’t exercised in years our training is designed to work for all students. Our training will help to get you fit, lose weight, and live a longer healthier life.

Am I too old to start training?

Our training is designed to help keep the body, mind, and spirit young. We even have students that are in their 60’s and 70’s that are still going strong!

Is Shao-Lin training suitable for women?

Absolutely, we have many women in the art, various ages and rank.

Many of the techniques developed in Shao-lin Kung Fu were designed for a smaller practitioner to defeat a larger more powerful attacker through superior skill, strategy and technique.

Studying Shao-Lin Kung Fu is the perfect preparation for a woman seeking effective and universal self-defense skills. In fact, the founder of Wing Chun, the style of Kung Fu that Bruce Lee studied, was a Shao-Lin nun.

Do you offer any trial classes?

Sure! In fact, we’ll give you your first full month of training for free – no strings attached.
